Manual & Computerised Payroll (B20138)

Course Overview

This twelve week course is designed for those who want the knowledge and skill to be able to maintain and process payroll records manually and on computers, in both small and medium sized organisations.  It will give participants a fundamental understanding of the terminology, documentation and systems involved in maintaining payroll records - including all tax records.  Once the basic principles have been understood participants will be instructed in the use of a computerised payroll package until they are completely familiar and comfortable in processing all aspects of a business’s payroll requirements using a computer.

Course Content

At the end of this course learners will be able to:

  • Explain all terminology related to payroll.
  • Perform all calculations required to determine an individual’s wage.
  • Calculate and maintain a business’s tax records in relation to payroll.
  • Enter all appropriate employer and employee details into a computerised payroll package.
  • Process all payroll details using a computerised payroll package.

Assessment

In order to successfully complete the module participants will be required to complete one project and pass one exam.

Award

Upon successful completion of the module participants will be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Payroll - Manual and Computerised.

Entry Requirements

Participants should have a working knowledge of computers and relevant work/life experience in the field of payroll management.

Duration

12 weeks, 2.5 hours per week
