Manual & Computerised Bookkeeping (B20137)

Course Overview

The Certificate in Manual & Computerised Bookkeeping is designed to provide learners with both an introduction to manual bookkeeping terms and principles, and the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a computerised accounts system using an integrated accounts package, appreciating the advantages of computerised accounts, and being aware of the various accounts packages available.  It is suitable for learners who have had no previous experience with computerised bookkeeping but wish to develop their skills in order to better able to manage either their own personal finances or those of a small business.

Course Content

Learners who successfully complete this module will:

  • Understand basic bookkeeping concepts and terminology
  • Record transactions in a manual accounts system and draw up a trial balance
  • Understand the main components of a computer system, and acquire the skills to carry out various housekeeping tasks
  • Enter basic financial transactions such as purchases and sales into a computerised accounting package.
  • Compile the primary accounting reports using a computerised accounting package.

Assessment

In order to successfully complete the module participants will be required to complete a project and pass one exam.

Award

Upon successful completion of the module participants will be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Manual & Computerised Bookkeeping.

Entry Requirements

Participants should have a Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.

12 weeks, 2.5 hours per week
