Certificate in Introduction to Nursing (D20012)
Course Overview
The Certificate in Introduction to Nursing is designed to provide learners with a general understanding of the structure and function of the health care service in the Republic of Ireland. This module explores the nursing profession. It introduces the learner to the caring role of the nurse and emphasises the importance of interpersonal communication.
Course Content
Learners who successfully complete this module will:
- Outline the history and development of nursing
- Know the various disciplines and specialities within nursing
- Understand the nursing process
- Appreciate the models of care
- Be aware of nursing ethics and etiquette in care situations
- Communicate effectively in ways that are consistent with the carer's role
- Avoid occupational hazards
- Become familiar with common nursing/medical terminology
- Perform a range of basic skills
Assessment
In order to successfully complete the module participants will be required to complete two assignments and pass one exam.
Award
Upon successful completion of the module participants will be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Introduction to Nursing.
Entry Requirements
Participants should have a Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.

12 weeks, 2.5 hours per week
