Course Overview
The Certificate in Care of People with Mental Illness is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to provide care for people with mental illness, under nursing supervision, in the mental health services.
Course Content
Learners who successfully complete this module will:
- Acquire a basis understanding of mental illness and its contexts
- Be familiar with national and local models of services for people with mental illness and their families
- Demonstrate good work practices in the provision of delegated care for people suffering with mental illness and their families
- Be able to meet a range of identified needs of people with mental illness across the lifespan under supervision and contribute to the quality of life of the person with mental illness
Assessment
In order to successfully complete the module participants will be required to complete a skills demonstration and a project.
Award
Upon successful completion of the module participants will be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Care of People with Mental Illness.
Entry Requirements
Participants should have a Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.

12 weeks, 2.5 hours per week
